Just read A Fighters Heart by Sam Sheridan. During the book he spent 10 days at an intensive meditation camp ran by hardcore monks.
They focused on silencing the mind and focusing on the now. They did this by moving while meditating and focusing on the movement. They would sit and do hand movements or walk 7 steps and pivot. The focusing on the movements helped silence the mind and create mindfullness. After his sixth day at the camp he got ahold of it. He described it as focusing on the now, knowing that emotions were only emotions and knowing that thoughts were only thoughts. He talked about how he could once again enjoy laying in the grass and watching the clouds etc etc.
I felt like I was re-reading parts of the Power of Now. Both the book and the monks worked toward the same exact thing; gives more credibility to Tolles principles IMO. Just thought it was interesting.
